Dear Elijah,
I can’t believe it’s been a year since you were born. In many ways it seems like you have been a part of our family forever, but that day last June when we first met you doesn’t seem very long ago at all.
You are a super sweet baby-almost-toddler! Though I have to say that this pre-toddler stage you are in has brought out your temper. Not being able to do exactly what you want when you want it makes you very frustrated. I totally understand!
Your seventh tooth finally broke through a couple of days ago. I’m sure number eight will start bothering you soon, yuck. Then those molars will start… I hope yours break through sooner than Hannah’s did. Her one year molars didn’t finish coming in until she was 19 months old!!
You are officially a crawling expert! You are very fast and you have even learned to climb the stairs (yikes!!). I have a bad feeling that you will be my climber! I know that I had it coming since I was the same way, but I got spoiled by Hannah’s not climbing on things. You started cruising a bit in the past week or two, it’s not your main mode of transport, but you use it to your advantage when needed. This morning, I held both of your hands to see if you could walk that way… you sidled! I’ve never seen that before and I thought it was quite cute!!
You say a couple of words, but they’ve become a bit more general over time. Dada now refers to pretty much any person. You still say "Haddah", but I’m not convinced you always mean Hannah when you say it. You do use a couple of signs. You wave hi/bye, you raise your arms to say "pick me up" out of the high chair, you make a certain "dah" coupled with reaching toward the door when you want to go outside. You are also starting to string together syllables that sound like sentences. Drew swears that you said, "Here you go, Drew" yesterday. Oh, and you have a fake laugh!! It’s especially funny when a show with a laugh track is on TV, you think you need to laugh because other people are.
We’ve been at Momma and Papa’s house for about two weeks now, and we’ve been having a great time. Now that the water is warmer, you’ve decided that you like the pool pretty well. You have a floaty that we can set you in so you can float around with little intervention.
It’s been a fantastic year getting to know you! It’s amazing that you are so different than Hannah in many ways, but in other ways the two of you are so alike.
I love you Elijah.
